A hybrid of V. lantana pollinated by V. rhytidophyllum made in Holland around 1925. Grows 8-10' tall with a similar spread. Foliage is similar to that of V. lantana but more leathery. Summer foliage is like that of other leatherleaf viburnums but is deciduous except for the deep south. In our nursery, we experience a delightful contrast of the lighter green emerging foliage against a backdrop of older bluish-green foliage. Flowers are yellowish-white, 3-4" flat-topped cymes in mid May. Fruit is reddish, changing to a shiny black in late August, the clusters often containing both red and black fruit at the same time.
