A large growing shrub of hybrid origin (V. buddleifolium and V. rhytidophyllum) with strong branching reaching 8-10'. Foliage is large, lance shaped, medium dark green above and pubescent below and leathery. White flowers in mid-May are only slightly fragrant, producing fruit changing from green to pink to red and finally black and very abundant. As an additional feature, it reblooms with great intensity in mid to late July while the fruit from the previous blooming period is in the pink transition stage. Quite impressive with flowers and fruit all at the same time. Autumn color is a muted wine red but dependent on the fall temperature and moisture. Leaves remain on the plant until the following spring making it a useful year-round screen and windbreak. Zone 6
