A seedling selection by Donald Egolf in 1952 from seed collected in Poland and later introduced by the U.S. National Arboretum in 1966.  Habit is very dense, upright when young, then becoming spreading but remaining dense.  Foliage is thick, dark green, and heavily textured.  The original plant was 8½' tall and 9' wide after 15 years.  Flowers are creamy-white and profuse.  Fruit changes from green, to orange-red, then finally black.  Very ornamental in that all fruit colors can be seen in the same fruit cluster at one time.  Fruit remains in the orange-red stage for 3 weeks or longer.  Foliage holds well after frost but is not evergreen.  Zone 3
