Viburnum x burkwoodii 'Anne Russell'

A backcross of V. x burkwoodii and V. carlesii.  The selection was made in 1951 by John Russell at L.R. Russell Ltd., Richmond Nurseries, Windlesham, England and named after his wife.  Compact in habit, growing 6'(7') high and wide.  Habit is more rounded and self scaffolding than V. x burkwoodii.  Abundant pink buds open to 3" white, fragrant flowers.  At our nursery, it has bloomed a few days before V. x burwoodii.  Reported to have survived -30°.  Zone 4
