Introduced in 1972 as the result of a cross between V. carlesii and V. x burkwoodii by A.O. Wild of Sarcoxie Nursery, Sarcoxie, MO. This is a self scaffolding selection that does not requires the pruning that is required of V. x burkwoodii. Foliage is dark green and semi glossy, more characteristic of its burkwoodii parent. Fragrant flowers, pink in the bud opening to white are produced in profusion at the tip of almost every branch terminal. One of the first fragrant viburnums to bloom in mid April. Fall color is reddish-purple. Due to its lack of publicity, this selection has never received the recognition that it deserves but is rapidly becoming one of our best selling fragrant viburnums.
