A deciduous shrub native to eastern Noorth America, closely related to V. dentatum (probably a variety of dentatum but taxonomically given species status) but considered to be more northerly distributed. Although listed as a quite large shrub, most sightings refer to a 5-6' high and wide plant that is very dense in habit. Leaf undersides, jpetiole, buds, and stems are prominently pubescent, unlike that of V. dentatum which is glabrous. Leaves also have a thinner texture. White flowers in June produce round to oval blue-black fruit. Zone 4
