Viburnum prunifolium

Viburnum prunifolium 'Summer Magic'

This upright-rounded blackhaw is ideal as a specimen or small tree.  Introduced by Willoway Nursery of Ohio, it matures at 12-15' and 10-12' wide and is more compact than the species due to the fact that it does not exhibit the horizontal fish-bone branching of the species.  Selected for its attractive new growth of red leaves (photinia like), changing to pink, maturing to a leathery mauve green.  Fall foliage is a spectacular display of red and yellow.  Flowers of the species.  After 13 years, we have yet to see it fruit although adequate pollinators are in close proximity.  Zone 4
