Viburnum prunifolium

Viburnum prunifolium 'Forest Rouge'

A selection made by Dan Moore at McKay Nursery, Wisconsin.  A large shrub or multi-stemmed or single stemmed tree with dense, upright-oval branching.  Stems on emerging new growth are dark red with yellow green foliage which turns glossy dark green.  Flat-topped clusters of creamy-white flowers appear in mid May followed by blue-black fruit.  'Forest Rouge' was selected for its superior upright habit and outstanding maroon fall color.  This is one of the first viburnums to color for us in the fall and retains its color for well over a month.  A very fine selection.  Zone 3
