Viburnum plicatum f. plicatum

Viburnum plicatum f. plicatum 'Popcorn'

An awesome sight in bloom.  This 8' tall, 8' wide rounded shrub is vigorous but tight in habit with leathery, dark green foliage.  Hundreds of 3" round popcorn ball flowers line every branch, virtually obscuring the foliage in the spring.  Earlier flowering than other f. plicatum types.  Also considered to be more heat and drought tolerant.  A selection by Dr. David Leach.  Has withstood -23° for Dr. Eugene Coffman in Bellevue IA.  Zone 5
