Viburnum opulus

Viburnum opulus 'Notcutt'

Aka V. opulus 'Notcutt's Variety'.  Similar to the species but coarser, heavier branching, giving it a "masculine" look during the winter months.  Growing as wide as tall, maturing at 10'.  Foliage is a glossy green and deeper lobed than the species.  Flowers are typical of the species but larger; held upright on stiff pedicels resembling a pinweel.  The bright red fruit is larger than the type and remains firm and plump well into the winter before shriveling.  The fruit is extremely persistant, hanging on well into the following spring.  Fall color is an excellent maroon-red.  Zone 3
