A large shrub, 10-15' high and 10-12' wide that resembles V. betulifolium and V. hupehense. Despite the epithet, the leaves are not lobed. Brilliant, nearly round red fruits and a good claret autumn color. Abundant fruiting has been observed only on mature plants. Donald Egolf used this and V. japonicum to produce V. x 'Huron'. Native to central and western China. Zone 6
