A chance seedling of V. x globosum (V. davidii x V. calvum) found at Hillier with similar characteristics of the hygrid with the following exceptions. 'Jermyns globe' is extremely dense and more rounded in habit, and although it can achieve a 10x10' size, it can easily be maintained at a smaller size. Rather than having the 3 distinct veins of V. x globosum (from its V. davidii parent), its leaves have a central midvein with vein pairs branching from there. Dark green, evergreen leaves are undulating and wavy. Dull white flowers on 2-3" cymes from pink buds are non-fragrant. Fruits are a blue, ¼" long, narrow oval and quite persistent, still visible the following spring. Exhibits good shade tolerance but is sun adaptable. Zone 6
Don't let the ultimate size of this plant intimidate you. It can be easily maintained at a smaller size.
