A dentatum of restrained (compact) habit, maturing in the 5-7' range. Foliage is smaller than the species, lustrous, and proven to be drought tolerant in southern states. The last of the dentatums to flower. Thought to be self fertile since it fruits heavily when no other dentatums are in bloom. Fall coloration is yellow. Although overlooked in the trade, this appears to be the answer to a compact dentatum that fruits with no pollinator required, unlike V. dentatum 'Blue Muffin'. Native to east Texas, Louisiana, to Florida.
This plant should be considered an alternative to V. dentatum 'Blue Muffin' but with added benefits. Attains the same size as 'Blue Muffin' but is self fertile (fruiting without the need for a pollinator).
